Overview
The project consists in developing around 10 GW of renewable energy (Solar PV, onshore Wind, BESS) in Algeria and Tunisia, producing 30 TWh/year for local use and export, plus 4 GW of new electricity transfer capacity between North Africa and Europe. It aims to cut about 8 MtCO2 emissions annually in the EU and accelerate the energy transition.
The main activities are:
- Building renewable energy capacity and transmission infrastructure.
- Promoting market integration and policy reforms between North Africa and Europe.
- Supporting local renewable energy industry and private sector growth.
- Implementing financial and industrial components aligned with the “Piano Mattei” agenda, supported by Italy, Algeria, Austria, Germany, and Tunisia.
