Moldova-Romania interconnection phase II

Overview

The Moldova-Romania Interconnection Phase II project aims to improve the energy security of the Republic of Moldova with two investment projects: “Moldova-Romania Interconnection” and “Termoelectrica Chișinău District Heating Project. 

The project includes the following components: 

  • Subcomponent 1
    Construction of new substation Balti 400/330 kV to allow the connection of new overhead transmission line running between Bălți and Suceava (border with Romania)
  • Subcomponent 2 
    Construction of a 400 kV electricity transmission line between Balti and Suceava (border with Romania).The voltage level of 400 kV has been determined to be optimum with regard to minimising power losses and reducing overloads on the network
  • Subcomponent 3
    Finance Moldelectrica network rehabilitation including replacement of cca 202 110 kV bays and 25 35 kV bays ​replacement of ten 110 kV power transformers, in order to strengthen and increase reliability.
