Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) in Egypt

Overview

The Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) flagship project aims at mobilising finance climate change mitigation and adaptation projects. It is Egypt's program for fulfilling its climate pledges under the country's Nationally Determined Contributions. It runs from 2022 until 2030. Through this flagship project, Egypt seeks to mobilise funding - and act as a platform - for the development of green projects in the food, water and energy sectors.

The NWFE has a large EU footprint with the EBRD at the forefront of the energy component, the EIB involvement in the financing renewable energy production and the involvement of various EU countries in investments.

As the NWFE programme is largely based on mobilising finance for long-term projects for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, the main milestone is the completion of its targets in 2028 at the latest.
