Water sanitation in Guatemala

Overview

The flagship project will invest in key infrastructure around the Peten Itza Lake basin to improve its water, sanitation and waste management. It includes:

  1. the expansion of the sewage system and optimization of sewage pumping stations and wastewater treatment plant in the municipalities of Flores and San Benito
  2. the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for the mancomunity of the Lake Peten Itza and the first phase of the sewer system expansion in the municipalities of San Andres and San Jose
  3. the construction of the first phase of a new landfill and closure of the current one in the municipality of San Benito
  4. the construction of two waste transfer centres and other small infraestructures to improve solid waste management
