New call for applications

On 1 October 2026, the European Commission launched a new call for applications to renew the membership of the Commission expert group, named Global Gateway Business Advisory Group.

The duly signed applications must be submitted through the online form by Friday 13 November 2026 at 14h00 at the latest (Brussels time). The date and time of the submission will be the date and time of submission to the online form.

The group's mission

The mission of the Global Gateway Business Advisory Group (BAG) is to assist the European Commission to strengthen cooperation on Global Gateway strategy and implementation with the European private sector.

This informal Commission expert group was launched in September 2023 to support the full mobilisation of the private sector and maximise the impact and effectiveness of Global Gateway investments. It allows Global Gateway to benefit from the business perspective in a structured way. In 2026, the European Commission decided to renew the membership of the group by launching a new call for applications.

The group provides a forum to discuss and gather feedback on the strategic orientations of Global Gateway. It collects input from private sector representatives on their priorities, activities, challenges and opportunities in sectors and regions covered by Global Gateway. It also allows discussion on the implementation of the strategy.

Group members and selection procedure

From September 2023 to October 2026, the group consists of 58 members and 10 observers. Members were selected through a call for applications, open from 8 March to 4 May 2023.

From the end of 2026, the group will include up to 75 members who will be selected through a call for applications launched on 1 October 2026. For more information on the selection process, see the call for applications document below.

Members are organisations from the EU private sector, headquartered in the European Union and under EU control. Organisations include companies of all sizes. Among the members are also EU trade and business associations, as well as established EU business networks.

European financial institutions, such as development finance institutions and export credit agencies, have been granted an observer status by direct invitation.

Background

On 1 December 2021, the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy presented the Joint Communication on Global Gateway.

Delivered in a Team Europe approach, Global Gateway intends to boost smart, clean and secure links in the digital, climate, energy and transport sectors, and to strengthen education, research and health systems across the world.
