Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote sit on Peru's north coast, around 450 km north of Lima. Barely 70% of their metropolitan area has basic drinking water coverage, with supply running for at most 12 hours a day on average and at pressures below urban standards.

San Cristóbal in the Dominican Republic has a wastewater treatment plant, but it operates at just 10% of its capacity due to the lack of sewer systems. Only 60 km of heavily degraded sanitation networks exist, covering a limited central area and serving fewer than 50% of the population.
