The EU defines its medium and long-term international cooperation priorities through the programming process. Under the ‘Global Europe:Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument programme’ we have defined priority areas for the period 2021-2027 with each partner country and region.
Our funding instruments help us define the legal framework and scope of these programmes, and specify which actors and areas are eligible for funding.
We implement programmes around the world wherever assistance is needed. We tailor our support to fit the region or country being helped. Programmes with a global reach allow the EU to provide similar support to countries facing similar problems.
We use a framework to measure performance of EU-funded interventions and to communicate key results. It is instrumental in tracking the EU priorities for external action.
